Je serais de même avis, la tendance à l'air de s'inverser à moins que Bugno est eu une forme du jour cata.

16ème étape, Santa Maria della Versa - Lavagna
Une étape parsemée de quelques difficultés, qui devrait se jouer dans l'échappée, il faut donc y aller dedans, peut être avec encore Mottet pour marquer quelques points.
On n'est jamais mieux servis que par soi même, on déclenche l'échappée avec Garzelli, Mottet suit. On est 7 puisqu'il y a aussi Puma, Casado, Werner, Cattai et Guerini. Malheureusement derrière, la TVM, la Festina et la Lotto ne veulent pas laisser partir.
Le bras de fer avec le peloton dure plusieurs dizaines de kilomètres, Werner et Casado ne tiennent pas et se font récupérer. L'échappée sera finalement reprise, un autre groupe sort avec Theunisse, Manzoni, Roosen et Lino. Simoni rentre après coup. Cattai, seul rescapé de l'échappée initiale, se retrouve entre le groupe de tête et le peloton.
Simoni parvient à passer en tête sur le premier col, devant Theunisse, pour préserver le maillot de Mottet. Le peloton passe à 8'30".
A 65 kilomètres de l'arrivée, Beloki sort du peloton, seul, pourquoi me direz vous? Tout simplement pour tenter un rapproché au classement par équipe, l'écart étant déjà de plus de 12 minutes avec la tête. Dans le deuxième col du jour, Simoni passe devant Theunisse, les deux se sont détachés, mais attendent les trois coureurs qui les accompagnent. Cattai est lui à plus de 6 minutes. Beloki passe à 12 minutes et le peloton à quasi 16 minutes.
Une chute se produit dans le peloton, Mejia est le plus touché et abandonne. Rincon, Bruyneel, De Las Cuevas et Hampsten sont également tombés. Ils rentrent toutefois dans le peloton.
Devant, Simoni passe seul en tête en haut de la dernière difficulté. Il est repris à 9 kilomètres de l'arrivée. Immédiatement, Theunisse contre, et le grimpeur va tenir jusqu'aux 5 kilomètres... Il y a un petit temps d'observation et c'est Simoni, qui n'a pas roulé qui contre, il a la tête dans le guidon, il passe la flamme rouge, Manzoni revient sur lui, Simoni le tasse... Que disent les commissaires? Simoni gagne (c'est une honte diront certains, mais vous vous n'avez pas les images.

18ème étape; Lavagna - Bra
Dernière étape vallonnée avant les deux dernières de montagne, on pense à la victoire d'un échappé et nous sommes plutôt bons pour cela.
Après de nombreuses tentatives, un groupe de 8 a pu sortir. Argentin, Laeli, Roosen, Garzelli, Manzoni, Cepele, Lino et Cenghialta. Argentin est donc le mieux placé.
Le peloton ne laisse toutefois pas l'échappée très loin, les Mercatone, les Mapei et les GB-MG roulent, intéressés qu'ils sont par la victoire d'étape.
Dans le final, ils ne sont plus que trois; Lino, Leali et Cenghialta. Tous les autres ont explosé et le peloton n'est plus très loin. Le peloton justement, dans les côtes finales, il a perdu beaucoup de monde. Le pauvre De Las Cuevas, pris dans une chute collective qui va entrainer l'abandon de Perini, est rejeté très loin. Gotti, Poulnikov mais aussi... Tonkov sont distancés! Alors qu'il reste une quarantaine de coureurs dans le peloton!!
A la suite d'un gros effort, le leader de la course rentre sur le groupe qui ne comporte plus qu'une vingtaine de coureurs. Sans doute un problème mécanique donc. A 20 kilomètres de l'arrivée, Leali est seul en tête.
Dans un petit mur, Sorensen attaque avec Della Santa, ils provoquent la perte de Bruyneel et de Rincon! Leali a été repris et laché. Sorensen va résister jusqu'à la fin au retour des favoris et s'impose!

19ème étape; Cuneo - Les Deux Alpes (FRA)
Jugez plutôt : Agnel, Izoard, Lautaret et les deux alpes. Une étape qui va tutoyer les hauts sommets. Il va y avoir de quoi faire, déjà pour nous pour le maillot de la montagne. Mottet s'est préservé depuis sa dernière grosse échappée, il doit marquer des points pour s'assurer le maillot.
Grosse bagarre sur le plat pour sortir, l'échappée se forme en trois temps. On retrouve trois velo-club.net : Beloki, Garzelli et l'inévitable Mottet. Pour la montagne, Guerini, Theunisse et Virenque sont là. Pour le général, Argentin et Armstrong sont les mieux placés. Le reste est un mix entre grimpeur et baroudeurs. Cette échappée se voit accordée un écart de 2 minutes 30 avant d'avoir du mal à creuser. Derrière, se sont les Lampre, mais aussi les Polti qui roulent. Serait ce la résurrection de Bugno? Le vent s'est en tout cas levé.
L'échappée vers Agnel.
Dans les premiers kilomètres difficiles vers Agnel, grosse accélération des ZG Mobili pour Nelson Rodriguez. Ils reviennent à 1 minute 30 et le peloton perd des éléments. L'échappée doit à nouveau accélérer, Theunisse lache, Garzelli également.
C'est Lanfranchi qui passe en tête au sommet d'Agnel, Mottet, superbement amené par Beloki, s'arrache pour passer en deuxième position. Guerini a été laché, ça sent très bon pour le maillot de la montagne. Le peloton a été rejeté à plus de 5 minutes.
Au pied de l'Izoard, se sont les Carrera qui prennent le relais, Luttenberger fait exploser une partie du peloton. Au sommet de l'Izoard, trois coureurs :
Dufaux, Virenque et Lanfranchi
à 1'13" Armstrong, seul;
à 1'57" Beloki, Mottet, Unzaga, Volpi et Vona.
à 3'21" Argentin
à 3'48" peloton de 26 coureurs dont Bernard et Jimenez.
Dans le Lautaret, les 8 premiers coureurs se rejoignent. La Carrera fait le forcing dans le Lautaret, le peloton perd encore des éléments et les échappés sont repris.
L'échappée reprise, Chiappucci attaque immédiatement!
Deux coureurs reviennent sur lui, Fondriest et Tonkov, Fondriest prend bien évidemment le relais! Bugno est obligé de rouler derrière. Grâce à la précieuse aide des Once et des Banesto, la jonction se fait dans la descente. Mottet, héroïque, a pu marquer des points dans le Lautaret.
Dans la montée vers les 2 Alpes, plusieurs coureurs attaquent, d'abord Delgado, puis Hampsten et Chiappucci. Mais Tonkov parvient à maitriser tout cela; à la suite de ces offensives, 9 coureurs émergent : Tonkov, Chiappucci, Hampsten, Bernard, Delgado, Bruyneel, Rincon, Bugno et Della Santa.
A la flamme rouge, Tonkov démarre, personne ne peut suivre, Bugno et Delgado craque, le Russe s'en va gagner l'étape et probablement le Giro.

Jugez plutôt : Agnel, Izoard, Lautaret et les deux alpes. Une étape qui va tutoyer les hauts sommets. Il va y avoir de quoi faire, déjà pour nous pour le maillot de la montagne. Mottet s'est préservé depuis sa dernière grosse échappée, il doit marquer des points pour s'assurer le maillot.
Grosse bagarre sur le plat pour sortir, l'échappée se forme en trois temps. On retrouve trois velo-club.net : Beloki, Garzelli et l'inévitable Mottet. Pour la montagne, Guerini, Theunisse et Virenque sont là. Pour le général, Argentin et Armstrong sont les mieux placés. Le reste est un mix entre grimpeur et baroudeurs. Cette échappée se voit accordée un écart de 2 minutes 30 avant d'avoir du mal à creuser. Derrière, se sont les Lampre, mais aussi les Polti qui roulent. Serait ce la résurrection de Bugno? Le vent s'est en tout cas levé.
L'échappée vers Agnel.
Dans les premiers kilomètres difficiles vers Agnel, grosse accélération des ZG Mobili pour Nelson Rodriguez. Ils reviennent à 1 minute 30 et le peloton perd des éléments. L'échappée doit à nouveau accélérer, Theunisse lache, Garzelli également.
C'est Lanfranchi qui passe en tête au sommet d'Agnel, Mottet, superbement amené par Beloki, s'arrache pour passer en deuxième position. Guerini a été laché, ça sent très bon pour le maillot de la montagne. Le peloton a été rejeté à plus de 5 minutes.

20ème étape; Les Deux Alpes (FRA) - Sestrières
On y est, c'est la dernière étape de montagne et une étape sur le format "sprint".
Les cols ne sont pas les plus durs : le Lautaret, Montgenevre, et deux montées de Sestrières. Seulement 116 kilomètres.
Forcément, dernière étape difficile = beaucoup de candidats à l'échappée, et ça tombe bien, car avec les écarts creusés, Lampre n'est pas trop regardant. On retrouve tous les premiers du classement de la montagne qui ne sont pas présent au général. On a nous Mottet, Jimenez, Simoni et même Beloki. On retrouve Argentin, Virenque, Dufaux, Gotti... On a même le jeune Vandenbroucke. Ils sont 24.
Derrière, les Carrera prennent vite le manche, Chiappucci sait qu'il peut accéder au podium. Au Lautaret, Mottet passe devant Simoni et Theunisse, il est assuré d'avoir le maillot si il termine l'étape et le Giro. Le peloton est à 3'30" environ, il est composé de 105 unités, ce qui veut dire que pas mal de coureurs ont déjà lâchés.
Dans la vallée, le peloton a relâché et s'est reformé ce qui est rare voire même exceptionnel puisque généralement il en profitait toujours pour se rapprocher. L'écart monte à plus de 7 minutes.
Dans Montgenevre, le peloton perd encore un peu de temps, l'échappée perd du monde, comme par exemple Vandenbroucke.
Sestrières est le col le plus dur du jour et forcément, l'échappée accélère. Au sommet ils ne sont plus que 9 : Gotti, Lanfranchi, Virenque, Guerini, Theunisse, Jimenez, Unzaga et Colagé
à 57" Stephens, Dufaux, Vona et Elli, juste après, Aparicio.
à 9 minutes passe un peloton de moins de 25 coureurs.
Sestrières avec l'échappée.
Dans la descente, Fondriest tombe.
Ivan Gotti attaque dans la dernière ascension, Unzaga et Virenque tentent de s'accrocher!
Dans le peloton, Chiappucci qui renifle l'air de ses exploits passés, est le premier à allumer la mèche, mais il est sévèrement contré par Hampsten qui part, Delgado, Rincon et Della Santa tentent de suivre sans véritable succès. Devant Gotti a vu revenir une fusée jaune, Dufaux qui fait une dernière montée superbe!
Dufaux l'emporte au terme d'un sprint à l'arraché!
Pour le classement général, Hampsten a été repris suite à un formidable travail de Conti. Les Once ont tenté d'accélérer mais c'est bien le maillot rose qui est parti au rythme dans le dernier kilomètre. Derrière lui, il y a Bruyneel, Rincon, Hampsten et Bernard; puis Delgado, puis Bugno, et enfin Chiappucci qui n'est pas bien du tout!
Tonkov devant, les autres derrière, c'était ainsi en montagne sur le Giro cette année.

On y est, c'est la dernière étape de montagne et une étape sur le format "sprint".
Les cols ne sont pas les plus durs : le Lautaret, Montgenevre, et deux montées de Sestrières. Seulement 116 kilomètres.
Forcément, dernière étape difficile = beaucoup de candidats à l'échappée, et ça tombe bien, car avec les écarts creusés, Lampre n'est pas trop regardant. On retrouve tous les premiers du classement de la montagne qui ne sont pas présent au général. On a nous Mottet, Jimenez, Simoni et même Beloki. On retrouve Argentin, Virenque, Dufaux, Gotti... On a même le jeune Vandenbroucke. Ils sont 24.
Derrière, les Carrera prennent vite le manche, Chiappucci sait qu'il peut accéder au podium. Au Lautaret, Mottet passe devant Simoni et Theunisse, il est assuré d'avoir le maillot si il termine l'étape et le Giro. Le peloton est à 3'30" environ, il est composé de 105 unités, ce qui veut dire que pas mal de coureurs ont déjà lâchés.
Dans la vallée, le peloton a relâché et s'est reformé ce qui est rare voire même exceptionnel puisque généralement il en profitait toujours pour se rapprocher. L'écart monte à plus de 7 minutes.
Dans Montgenevre, le peloton perd encore un peu de temps, l'échappée perd du monde, comme par exemple Vandenbroucke.
Sestrières est le col le plus dur du jour et forcément, l'échappée accélère. Au sommet ils ne sont plus que 9 : Gotti, Lanfranchi, Virenque, Guerini, Theunisse, Jimenez, Unzaga et Colagé
à 57" Stephens, Dufaux, Vona et Elli, juste après, Aparicio.
à 9 minutes passe un peloton de moins de 25 coureurs.
Sestrières avec l'échappée.
Dans la descente, Fondriest tombe.
Ivan Gotti attaque dans la dernière ascension, Unzaga et Virenque tentent de s'accrocher!
Dans le peloton, Chiappucci qui renifle l'air de ses exploits passés, est le premier à allumer la mèche, mais il est sévèrement contré par Hampsten qui part, Delgado, Rincon et Della Santa tentent de suivre sans véritable succès. Devant Gotti a vu revenir une fusée jaune, Dufaux qui fait une dernière montée superbe!
Dufaux l'emporte au terme d'un sprint à l'arraché!
Pour le classement général, Hampsten a été repris suite à un formidable travail de Conti. Les Once ont tenté d'accélérer mais c'est bien le maillot rose qui est parti au rythme dans le dernier kilomètre. Derrière lui, il y a Bruyneel, Rincon, Hampsten et Bernard; puis Delgado, puis Bugno, et enfin Chiappucci qui n'est pas bien du tout!
Tonkov devant, les autres derrière, c'était ainsi en montagne sur le Giro cette année.
