On peut dire que le niveau de Steinhauser est pourri, en attendant il est parmi les 6 qui passent en tête. À partir de ce moment, ça me semble juste de dire qu'il pouvait gagner l'étape au même titre que les 5 autres.
Après, il a peut-être déclaré à l'oreillette qu'il se savait battu.
De toute façon dans l'absolu EF a raison de privilégier le possible gain du Giro vs le gain d'une étape.

Steinhauser a eu un souci de préparation et est tombé malade juste avant le Giro (c'est lui qui l'a dit à un ami à moi qui lui parle sur insta) et il savait qu'il allait falloir attendre la fin du Giro pour être un peu mieux, mais c'est pas encore ça

Bon à 20km de l'arrivée y a encore 1min30s d'avance pour l'échappée, je pense que c'est gagné.

Je pense qu'il a fait ça pour essayer de faire tomber l'écart (dans le petit raidar) et inciter d'autres équipes à rouler en faisant miroiter le gain de l'étape.
Movistar s'y colle maintenant justement.

Del Toro avec ses roues aux stickers roses, il mérite de perdre le Giro rien que pour ça (en plus du full kit rose).
